 ACM40322 - Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour and Training

Qualification Description
This qualification describes the skills and knowledge required for an animal trainer and/or animal training practitioner working with a specific species or across a range of species and workplaces where they are required to work closely with animal carers or owners (clients). The qualification provides options for individuals wanting to work in animal-assisted services, animal rehoming/adoption, rehabilitation roles, exhibited animal facilities or who specialise in conditioning or training different species.
The qualification is for individuals with experience in working with and caring for animals, to develop the skills required to interpret animal behaviour, apply animal learning theory, and to evaluate best practice conditioning and training methodologies and techniques to meet the welfare needs of animals, and to provide ethical services for carers/clients.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
Packaging Rules
To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:
  • 16 units of competency:
  • 8 core units plus
  • 8 elective units.
Elective units must ensure the integrity of the qualification’s Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
Electives can be chosen to provide a general qualification or a qualification with a specialisation.
For the award of the general qualification ACM40322 Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour and Training choose:
  • at least 4 from the electives listed in Group A
  • up to 4 from the electives listed in Groups A, B, C, D or E not already selected
  • up to 3 from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
For the award of the qualification with an Assistance dog training specialisation, ACM40322 Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour and Training (Assistance Dog Training), choose:
  • at least 2 units from Group A
  • all 5 units from Group E
  • 1 may be selected from any group not already selected
  • 1 may be from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
