JNB Media kits are based on an RPL model that is guided and supported, and which relies on the candidate’s ability to demonstrate their competence by answering questions from an assessor, providing referees and, where applicable, assessing their practical skills in the workplace.
JNB Media RPL models require candidates to back up and support their RPL assessment with written evidence, instead of being entirely based on this written evidence. The RPL process will include several ‘competency conversations’ and practical tasks where applicable, which provides the candidate with the opportunity to explain and demonstrate their level of skills and knowledge.

- A Trainer/Assessor’s Kit, that includes detailed instructions, procedures and recording tools to be used during the process. It also includes a set of checklists for verbal questions and evidence-gathering tasks (where applicable). Questions and tasks are mapped to the requirements of each unit of competency.
- The Candidate Kit, which is to be provided to the candidate at the beginning of the process. This kit will help them make a decision about which units are suitable to apply for. The Candidate Kit includes a set of self-assessment questions for each unit. The kit also includes instructions about evidence-gathering tasks (where applicable). As the candidate works through each unit they will need to think about the types of evidence they can provide.
- The Third Party Kit, which is to be completed by an independent third party (at the assessor's discretion if they deem it necessary) who is familiar with the candidate’s abilities in the workplace and who currently is (or has previously worked) in a supervisory position to the candidate. The third party person is asked to provide feedback on the candidate’s skills and workplace performance.
